We did the Tongariro Crossing yesterday. Arrived at the Ohakune Court Motel the day before, got a very warm welcome and guidance on weather-transport-choose-the-correct-day for the hike. Expecting a sunny morning we then took off at 7.15 a.m. on the shuttle bus to join others for the Tongariro Crossing. It must be one of the best hikes – if not the best – we’ve done. Spectacular! Shuttle bus took us back to the motel at 4 p.m. where a shower, cold drink and plunge to the hot tub helped recover from the long hike. Our unit offered good facilities for cooking and relaxation with a New Zealand video (free from the Reception). And this morning again the great views of the mountains invited us for yet another hike. Great place, great hospitality. Thanks! Irja and Simon Biggs

Beautiful place. Love the Alps in Europe and this was my first visit to New Zealand – had a great time in the summer. Spectacular views. Trying to arrange a winter trip to sample the skiing!

    • Hi Andy!

We’re glad for your enjoyable experience. Hope you can make it again for the winter. You would be amazed by the views in winter: mountain covered with snow surrounded by the lavish green tongariro national park on its foot and lots of sun shine to complete the scenery. Weekdays are the best time to enjoy the slopes, you can have the whole mountain for yourself: a different experience from Europe and the slopes in the NZ south island.
We hope to hear from you again
